Question: How long have you been in education?
Answer: I have been involved in education for a total of 7 years. 5 of those years I was part time technician, and part time teacher. For the last two years I have been strictly in the classroom.
Question: What do you like best about being an educator?
Answer: I enjoy the challenge of work with teenagers and watching them grow as a student. I also enjoy the learning that does happen even if it is eventually.
Question: Explain the importance of technology in your curriculum and your everyday teaching strategies?
Answer: My whole curriculum is technology based. It is important to use technology in different ways other than the obvious. This technology is also great for student's independent exploration, "Learn as you do."
Question: Explain what your strategies are for implementing this technology?
Answer: We do not use text books in my class. We follow a few introductory lessons, the rest is teacher guided with student independent paced learning. This can be a little hectic with 19 students per class at 19 different levels. But I wouldn't be in education if I didn't love that.
Question: What do you think is the most beneficial use of this technology?
Answer: Standards has taken creative time away from students. Too often they only do what ever the "basic requirements" are. Photoshop allows for individual creativity and brings about creative thinking. |

Question: What made you decide to start using this technology?
Answer: I took a class in college and fell in love with Photoshop. Being a photographer who hated the darkroom and chemicals, Photoshop was a blessing. Photoshop creations are only limited by your imagination. Question: What has been the impact on your students, i.e. Improved time on task, improved understanding of material, more engaged? |
|
Answer: I believe this class has created a major excitement for learning with the students. There have been a lot of creative assignments come out of this class and the students are very engaged with the task at hand. There has been a high demand for this class over the last several years.
Question: How long have you been using this technology?
Answer: I have been a photographer for over 20 years and working with Photoshop for about the last 10 years or so.
Question: How difficult was this technology to implement? What roadblocks did you encounter?
Answer: The only hurdles we encounter is the ever changing product versions. It is very expensive to keep up to date with the latest versions of the software we use in Digital Imaging. Also, file storage has been somewhat of an obstacle we face. With hundreds of projects, it takes up some disk space.
Question: What hardware or software do I need to use it?
Answer: On the hardware side, we use computers, digital cameras, scanners, and printers. As far as software, we stick with the king, Adobe Photoshop which extends into my other classes of graphic design, digital video and broadcasting productions.
Question: How much does it cost to implement this technology?
Answer: This is a very expensive technology to implement. We have needed to get a full lab of computers, more digital cameras, scanners, high-end printers, and as mentioned earlier, the expensive image editing software.
Question: Can you see any potential for cooperative and collaborative between other teachers in the district?
Answer: Yes, we work very closely with the Art class here at the High School and have also submitted projects to the State Art Contest where we had 3 winners in photo/digital images.
Question: Is there any valid measuring methods to evaluate learning using your solution?
Answer: Definitely. When looking at the students work, it is easy to evaluate the students progress. You can definitely tell they take pride in their work. Also, as the semester goes on, it is nice to see the students have been learning as they are teaching their peers some techniques. Cindy's Mission Statement:
Students and instructor always strive for perfection, while remembering there is always room for improvement.
