Walking the Path Forward, Together

Pathfinder 360 is officially launched. We share the story behind the Dillon Public Library security project, the growing role of cybersecurity investment in public institutions, and what we're hearing from the field.

The best work rarely starts with a perfect plan. It starts with people. Conversations. Challenges that don't quite fit the standard approach. That's what we've been seeing more of lately, and this issue shares what we're learning.

When the Playbook Doesn't Apply. When Pine Cove partnered with Dillon Public Library, Montana's first Carnegie library, established in 1902, the goal was to expand exterior visibility around the property. But the challenge was immediate: the historic stone construction can't support any drilling or mounting without risking damage. That meant the team had to rethink everything. The result was a highly creative installation approach, including alternative mounting strategies and even placing a camera in a nearby tree to achieve the right line of sight. It's a great example of how thoughtful planning and flexibility can protect both people and places, especially when those places have been part of a community for over a century.

Cybersecurity Investment Is Catching Up to the Risk. Across the country, schools and local governments are starting to respond more aggressively to rising cyber threats. A recent initiative in Georgia awarded nearly $10 million in cybersecurity grants to strengthen defenses across public institutions. The focus is clear: protect critical systems, safeguard data, and reduce the growing risks that districts and municipalities face every day. Security is no longer optional or reactive, it has to be intentional, planned, and continuously improved.

Partnerships Are Becoming Essential. Schools are increasingly turning to private-sector partnerships to strengthen cybersecurity posture. The complexity of today's threat landscape makes it difficult to go it alone, and collaboration is becoming a key part of staying ahead. More districts are realizing that having the right partner can accelerate decision-making, fill gaps in expertise, and bring structure to what can otherwise feel overwhelming.

The Skills Gap Is Real and Growing. There's a widening gap in cybersecurity talent, especially in education. As threats evolve, many organizations are struggling to find and retain the expertise needed to manage them effectively. This often leads to reactive environments where teams are stuck putting out fires instead of building long-term resilience.

Pathfinder 360 officially launched, and we're excited to begin sharing it more broadly with the districts and communities we serve. It brings infrastructure, security, budgeting, and leadership priorities into one clear, long-term roadmap, designed to connect where you are today with where you need to go next. As we begin rolling this out, we want to hear directly from the people doing the work every day. Take the survey at pinecc.com/field-survey.
