Where Strategy Meets the Real World
From a unique fossil-site security project in Snowmass, Colorado to the growing need for public-private cybersecurity partnerships, and the full rollout of Pathfinder 360.
This issue brings together what matters most right now: real-world projects, evolving security challenges, and the continued rollout of Pathfinder 360. One theme continues to show up across all of it, the need for proactive planning and stronger alignment between technology and mission.
Protecting the Past, Securing the Future in Snowmass. Up in Snowmass, Colorado, Pine Cove recently completed a unique project supporting a customer preparing for future excavation work tied to the historic 2010 high-elevation fossil discovery of a woolly mammoth and prehistoric bison. The goal was to test new camera technology capable of delivering Smithsonian-level visibility while also strengthening site security around critical infrastructure like the dam and control vault. Using built-in line crossing alerts, the system now provides real-time notifications for both human and vehicle activity, a feature that proved highly effective during testing. This comes at a critical time, with new federal guidance highlighting increased threats targeting water and energy infrastructure.
Stronger Together: Cybersecurity in Education Requires Partnership. Cybersecurity in education continues to evolve, and one thing is becoming clear: schools and public institutions can't do it alone. Recent industry conversations are pointing toward a growing need for stronger partnerships between education and the private sector to close security gaps, improve response times, and bring in specialized expertise. The organizations making the most progress aren't just investing in tools, they're building relationships that help them stay ahead of risk.
Closing the Cybersecurity Gap in Education. Educational institutions are continuing to face a growing cybersecurity skills gap, making it harder to keep up with evolving threats. Many schools are struggling to find and retain the expertise needed to properly secure their environments. This challenge is pushing leaders to rethink how they approach security, leaning more on partners, automation, and smarter tools to fill the gaps.
Critical Vulnerabilities Highlight Need for Proactive Security. Recent security patches from Microsoft highlight just how quickly vulnerabilities can emerge in widely used systems, and how important it is to stay ahead of them. Waiting to react is no longer enough, especially for organizations managing sensitive data and infrastructure. Proactive monitoring, real-time alerts, and layered security approaches are becoming the standard.
Pathfinder 360 is Pine Cove's newly launched framework designed to bring clarity, structure, and long-term direction to IT. Instead of reacting to issues as they arise, Pathfinder 360 aligns technology decisions with organizational goals through a proven, repeatable process, giving leadership clear visibility into where they are today and where they're headed next. With quarterly reviews and a roadmap that can span years, it connects day-to-day operations with long-term planning. Take the Pathfinder 360 survey at pinecc.com/field-survey.
